Plot summary: This non-fictional account of Kim Philby, the greatest spy in history, reads like a novel. Philby, a brilliant and charming man who rose to head Britain's counterintelligence during the Cold War, was secretly working for the Soviets. And nobody thought he knew Philby like Nicholas Elliott, Philby's  best friend and fellow officer. The two men had gone to the same schools, belonged to the same exclusive clubs, and grown close through the crucible of wartime intelligence work. But Philby was secretly betraying his friend. Every word Elliott breathed to Philby was being transmitted back to Moscow.
